I went back to California for my 20th high school reunion over the weekend and I have some stuff I wanted to post about that, but I’m in the middle of carb depletion for a marathon this weekend, plus I haven’t been sleeping much the past week, so I haven’t had time to write it. I do have some randomness I want to share, though.
– Best burger combo you’ve never thought of
2/3 pound burger with bacon crushed into the beef, topped with bacon and peanut butter and jelly. Sounds weird, but the server swore on it and it was pretty darn good.
– Best Kid Carwash Picture Ever
My kids on Sunday. Benjamin is actually working, which is good. He should be. He’s 11. Ava is having fun stepping in a bucket, which is good. She’s 6. Jack is Jack. He’s having a blast. He should be — that doesn’t happen often enough. I saw this from California when Tiff posted it on Facebook and tagged me and I loved it!
– I’m running a marathon on Saturday
This is my last chance to get back to Boston next year. I trained hard this summer, working on my endurance, weight and speed. I need a 3:10. My last race was a 3:19 into a headwind on June 9. The Monday before, I weighed 207. Today, I’m 193. I had a seven-week span this summer averaging 100 miles a week. I think there were 10 20+ mile runs, including about 4 of at least 26.2 and a 30-miler. I’ve done some faster stuff on the treadmill to make 7:15s seem easy. I’ve been tapering. I’m doing my standard carb depletion, which has always seemed to work. My A goal is to PR (2:57:53), my B goal is a sub-3 (2:59:59) and my C goal is a 3:10. If I can’t get this done, I guess it’s just not meant to be.
– Portland runners, check out this race
A good friend of Operation Jack, Steve Walters, is putting on the Operation Jack Northwest Run on December 22. He does this every year to support Operation Jack. I ran a similar race he put on during 2010 when I was busy running 61 marathons and I had a great time. I’m fully planning on being out there for the race. If you’re anywhere near the area, get on down there for the race! He’s capping the registration at 100 participants, so don’t miss out!
– San Francisco runners, check out this race
Another good friend of Operation Jack, Jonathan Gunderson, is putting on a charity race to build wells in Uganda, the 4th Annual Running For The Wells. It’s only a 6K/10K trail run, so you don’t need to be a distance runner to complete it! So take a look and get on down there!
OK, that’s all. I need to get ready for work. Have a great Tuesday!

Have fun in Boston, I am sure you will make it there again, Love that shot of the kids, priceless. My reunion was this weekend as well and I skipped it.
