Ahhh, my silly wife. She’s so funny about some things. Well, especially my running. Like, when I wanted to run a 50-miler, she thought it was crazy, and it was too much, but then I did it. I was slower than I expected to be and out of cell phone range that day, so she freaked out when she didn’t hear from as soon as she thought she would. When I finally got a hold of her, she was pretty upset. I think she’d already written my eulogy. She gave me an earful for a good 30 minutes. But right after that, you know what she told everybody?
“Guess what my husband did! He ran 50 miles!”
Ahhh, women. As Norm Peterson said on Cheers, “you can’t live with ’em, … pass the beer nuts.”
Well, she did it again this weekend. I won’t lie. This Boston training cycle was a bit tough. I’m not the type of guy who misses family time to work out, but I’m pretty dedicated and focused when I’m attacking a training cycle. She didn’t hesitate to let me know that she wasn’t going to miss this training cycle. I’m up early in the morning, sometimes I fall asleep early at night, I’m pretty focused on my nutrition, I talk about the race a lot … enough’s enough. And then it was done. But not in her mind.
Easter is a holiday we spend with our family. It’s a reason to celebrate and give thanks. And I guess in her eyes, nothing says dessert on Easter like this:
Ahhh, she’s so proud of me. I love her. Women. You can’t live with ’em … pass the beer nuts.
How’s My Site?
I switched to WordPress on Saturday. I’ve been wanting to do that for a year and I finally took the plunge. It was easier than I thought and the data migration wasn’t all that bad. I tried to go fetch some plug-ins to get the site to do what I want it to do and I’m still working on things a bit. I’m going back and retrofitting categories and looking for a few other things that I need.
If you want, give me a little feedback. I know there’s not much to it, but if you think there’s anything that needs to be changed, or if you think there’s anything missing, let me know. I have all of 36 hours of experience on WordPress now, so I’m far from good at this.
What I’m Training For
San Francisco. Can’t wait. If you don’t know why I’m doing it, click here. It’s a big fundraiser and I’m going all-out like I never have before. This is my goal race, much more so than Boston was. Anyways, I know not all of you can donate or make pledges, but if you can’t, can you at least spread the word? You never know who’s going to be the right person who can make a difference. I have a pledge form here and there are easy share links at the bottom of this post … it’s really, really easy!
Training Update
So I ran 78 or so miles last week. I went 26.2 in Boston on Monday, then 6 easy Tuesday, 5 easy Wednesday, 8 (am)/4 (lunch) Thursday, 15 (am)/4 (lunch) Friday and 9 easy on Saturday. I took a rest day yesterday, my first rest day in about six weeks. I like to run every day and I get antsy when I have a streak, but it’s nice when streaks end so I don’t worry about them any more. Rest days are beneficial, too.
I switched up my lunchtime workouts that I’m doing. Last cycle, I’d do them a couple of times a week, running 4 easy miles on the treadmill at the gym (for me, that was at 7.0 speed). I changed them to get a bit more of a workout. I run at 7.3, but I increase the incline progressively every 1/2 mile, going from 0 up to 3.5. Hills help me recover, plus it gets my heart rate up a bit without being too taxing on my legs. I’m hopeful these will also make me a little strong on hills, which will help in San Francisco. We’ll see!
This morning, it was 8 easy. I’m battling a cold and I didn’t feel like pushing. I’m probably going to head to the gym at lunch for one of those incline workouts.
OK, that’s all I’ve got for today. Y’all have a good Monday. I think I’ll have another post tomorrow, because I already know what I want to write about.
